Things to Know

Altitude

Quito is at a high altitude, 2,850 meters, which can cause discomfort for those who are not used to it. We recommend taking it easy during the first few days, staying hydrated, and avoiding intense physical exertion.

Security and Safety

As in any place, it's better to take precautions: avoid carrying valuables or large amounts of cash, and keep your belongings close, especially in crowded areas. Use reliable transportation, like Uber, and check with the hotel for safe transportation recommendations.

Currency

Ecuador uses the US dollar, so no need to do any currency exchange.

Weather

In Quito, temperatures can be cool, especially at night, so a light jacket or coat is essential, even for the wedding day. Since the equatorial sun is very intense, make sure to use sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, even on cloudy days.

Passport Information

Your passport needs to be valid for at least six months from the time you enter Ecuador, so please check expiration dates ASAP. It can take up to 8 weeks to renew your passport.

Are Ubers/taxis safe to get in Quito?

Ubers are safe and reliable in Quito. For taxis, we recommend requesting one through your hotel or accommodation.

Travelling to Ecuador

Travel Information

For guests traveling internationally, your destination airport will be Quito Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO).

There are direct flights to Quito from major U.S. cities, including Miami, Atlanta, and Houston.

The airport is located about 30 minutes from the city center. We recommend using the official taxi services at the airport to get to your hotel or accommodation.

Where to stay

Our wedding venue is just outside Quito, but we suggest staying in the city—you’ll have more time to explore and enjoy. Here are a few hotels we recommend.

If you’re looking to book an Airbnb, we recommend these neighborhoods: Cumbaya, Gonzalez Suarez, La Carolina, Republica del Salvador, and La Floresta.
